Conejo Valley Alano Club was created to meet a growing need for connection, consistency, and community within the local recovery landscape. While Alcoholics Anonymous meetings exist throughout the Conejo Valley, there has long been a gap for a dedicated, neutral space where recovery focused groups can gather regularly, build fellowship, and serve one another.

The vision for Conejo Valley Alano Club began with a simple idea: recovery thrives when people have a safe, welcoming place to meet and stay connected. What started as conversations among members of the recovery community grew into a shared commitment to establish a stable home for meetings and fellowship.

Conejo Valley Alano Club is currently in its formative stages, built by volunteers and guided by the principles of service, accessibility, and long term sobriety. As the organization grows, its focus remains the same—to support recovery by strengthening community and providing a reliable foundation for Alcoholics Anonymous and related recovery groups in the Conejo Valley.

Conejo Valley Alano Club is a volunteer driven nonprofit in its early stages, founded on the belief that strong recovery communities are built through service, collaboration, and shared responsibility.

At this time, our organization is guided by committed community members who are working to establish a formal board of directors and governance structure. As we grow, we are actively seeking individuals who feel called to support recovery and community building through board service.

We welcome prospective board members who bring:
• A commitment to service and community
• Professional experience in nonprofit leadership, finance, legal, facilities, or community outreach
• Lived experience or strong alignment with recovery principles
• A desire to help build a sustainable foundation for future generations

Board members play a vital role in shaping the vision, ensuring accountability, and helping Conejo Valley Alano Club grow into a lasting community resource.

The Heart Behind the Alano Club

Alcoholics Anonymous was founded on a simple but powerful principle: it does not finance, endorse, or attach its name to outside organizations. Yet as recovery began to transform lives in the 1930s, it became clear that something more was needed beyond meetings alone.

Alcoholics Anonymous was founded on a simple but powerful principle: it does not finance, endorse, or attach its name to outside organizations. Yet as recovery began to transform lives in the 1930s, it became clear that something more was needed beyond meetings alone.

People in recovery longed for a place to gather before and after meetings. Families needed support. Travelers needed safe harbor. Newly sober individuals needed community, not just once a week, but every day.

From that need, independent clubhouses were born. Often called 24 Hour Clubs, they were created and sustained by recovering individuals themselves. Though separate from AA, they reflected its spirit of service and fellowship. Over time, these spaces became known as Alano Clubs and many in the recovery community began to call them AA’s second miracle.

Our Vision for the Alano Club

Our Alano Club carries that same spirit forward.

It is not simply a building where meetings are held. It is a living, breathing community. A place where someone can walk in on their hardest day and not feel alone. A place where laughter replaces isolation. Where coffee and conversation become lifelines. Where mentorship happens naturally. Where families begin to heal.

For the traveler passing through town, it is safe harbor.
For the newcomer, it is hope.
For the long timer, it is a place to give back.
For the community, it is a light.

We envision a welcoming space that is clean, warm, and filled with fellowship. A place that offers not only meetings, but connection, service opportunities, and sober social experiences. A place that reminds every person who enters that recovery is not just possible. It is powerful.

The Alano Club stands as a testament to what happens when people in recovery come together, not just to stay sober, but to build something lasting for generations to come.

And we are honored to be part of that legacy.

Our Intended Impact

The Alano Club is in its early stages of development. Our current focus is on building a strong foundation that will allow meaningful impact to grow over time.

We are committed to creating a safe, sober, and welcoming community space where recovery support, peer connection, and service can take place consistently and with dignity.

As we grow, our intended impact includes:

  • Providing a stable, sober location for peer support meetings and recovery education
  • Offering calm, trauma informed spaces that support nervous system regulation and personal stability
  • Creating opportunities for service and volunteer involvement that strengthen recovery and community connection
  • Preserving the recovery message in a non clinical, community based environment

In these early stages, success is measured by:

  • Establishing governance and leadership
  • Securing a consistent meeting space
  • Building a volunteer base
  • Developing programs that align with our mission and values

We believe lasting impact is built through careful planning, integrity, and consistency.
